When do doctors do otoscopy?

Ear disease: Whenever there's reason to suspect disease of the inner or middle ear, a quick look is helpful. I never saw the point in otoscopy for a kid without signs or symptoms and who doesn't want it, but many pediatricians think it's important for the routine exam.
