Benign migratory glossitis looks like what?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Geographic tongue: Benign condition that is sometime sore. Foods like tomato flare it up. Tongue is has scattered irregular smooth reddish patches. Normally tongue is covered by bumps (papillae). In this condition, the papillae will atrophy (shrink) and cause irregular shaped smooth areas. The patches vary in size, shape and location- hence the name benign migratory glossitis (aka geographic tongue).
