A member asked:

Why do the microfilariae of the wuchereria bancrofti nematode migrate to the lung?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Biologic advantage: The organisms are diurnal: there is a nocturnal periodicity. During the day, they are present in the deep veins, and during the night, they will be found in the peripheral circulation. However, if you reverse your sleep wake cycle, the organisms do it. It is related to oxygen tension in the lungs. They are best able to go to the next vector from the peripheral circulation at night.
