A member asked:

Does asbestos danger increase after a kidney transplant?

Unclear: Kidney transplant recipients are maintained on immunosuppressive therapy and are increased risk of infections and malignancies. Previous asbestos exposure increases the risk of lung cancer, specifically mesothelioma. It is unclear whether chronic immunosuppressive therapy increases this risk even more but does warrant close followup.

Avoid contact: Asbestos is a toxic substance that is known to accumulate in the lungs. It has been associated with the development of mesothelioma. Any individual should avoid direct contact, especially organ transplant recipients that are immunosuppressed.
