Definition: The dsm-iv-tr has very specific criteria for substance abuse or substance dependence. Substance misuse, however, is not well defined but often the term is used when a person is engaging in maladaptive behaviors with regard to a substance that does not meet full criteria for abuse or dependence. Getting help before the problem worsens is key. Aa/na and sponsor and getting treatment for the problem.
