What does modern muslim society think about homosexuals?

Mulsim and being gay: I would imagine that this question could be answered several different ways depending on the muslim community that one is affiliated with. But, like most well defined religious belief systems, muslims do not have any more insight into the reality of the variety of sexualities and do not seem anxious to assist their homosexual sons and daughters to be anything but condemned to a world of hatred.
