A member asked:

What does breathing have to do with my cilia and lung cells?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clearing the airways: Ciliated cells line the trachea, bronchi and smaller airways. The beating of the cilia transports any particles, that land on the them, towards the mouth and on the way such particles may be coughed out or swallowed. Maintaining the potency of the airways is essential for breathing.
