5 factors: The 5 major risk factors for coronary artery disease are cigarettes, family history, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and diabetes mellitus. The greater number of risk factors, the greater the risk of coronary disease. The absence of risk factors, however, does not completely protect you from coronary artery disease.
