A 42-year-old member asked:

what will it mean if my menstrual blood is brown?

Older blood: In a normal menstrual cycle, bleeding occurs within the uterus. Depending on how long the blood remains in the uterus, it will turn from bright red to various shades of rust to brown. Brown menstrual blood just indicates older blood than blood that just came out of a blood vessel.

A 56-year-old female asked:

Why does my blood smell more strongly than others' I have smelled( not menstral blood)?

Not sure exactly: Unclear why you would be noticing a different smell. If you are smelling blood from a wound you may detect a different odor at different stages of healing. Otherwise there should not be a significantly noticeable difference in smell.

Where does menstrual blood come from?

The uterus: The uterus, which is also termed the womb, is the place in which a fertilized egg implants and a fetus develops. To accomplish this it grows a blood rich lining, ready for this process each month. If no egg implants, the excess is shed as a discharge through the vagina. This keeps companies that make tampons rich, and is a signal as to whether a woman might be pregnant.
A member asked:

Why does menstrual blood smell so bad?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Bac Nguyen

It shouldn't be..: There is always some/slight odor to the menstrual blood, but foul odor suggests a possibility of infection--vaginitis/vaginosis. A retained tampon is often the course of very foul odor even without menstrual flow. If you have pain as well, then more severe infection such as endometritis/pelvic inflammatory disease etc..Consult doc. Good luck.

Probably just blood: Blood which sits around becomes dark, brown or black. Also light bleeding may be pink.
