Usually Pain Less: Usually you pain in lessened, that is, after the recover from the surgery. But this question is best answered by the spine surgeon who is suggesting the disc replacement.

Biomechanics of ADR: The artificial disc takes up the work of the disc that was removed in terms of cushioning and allowing certain movements. However, there can be more stress placed on the facet joints of the spine, so it is best to report any residual or worsening symptoms to a spinal expert, as well as work on stretching and strengthening (I am personally a fan of yin yoga and recommend it commonly to patients).
