Time usually: Hematoma after cath is not uncommon. Large ones can be a little more worrisome. If other causes of the hematoma are ruled out then its a matter of time for the body to absorb the blood trapped in the soft tissue . It should feel better as days go by but may take a couple of weeks to resolve. It will probabaly look worse before better and migrate down the thigh to the knee. This normal.

Hematoma: Hematoma is not uncommon after cardiac catheterization. A hole is poked in a large vessel and it can leak even after we think its sealed. The blood will usually reabsorb over weeks if it in the lower limb. There is no good way to hurry up the reabsorbtion.
