Not rare: Acute pulmonary reactions to macrodantin (nitrofurantoin) occur in less than 1% of patients taking it,and more common in older patients(median age 60), females and with history of prior macrodantin (nitrofurantoin) use(but can occur even if no prior exposure). It is a acute hypersensitivity reaction causing inflammation in the lung causing some or all of the following: dypnea,cough, fever.Symptoms resolve by 48 hrs after stopping
