Allergy?: Hi Emily, When the vaginal tissue reacts and becomes swollen red and purple I 1st think of an allergy to an inserted medication or to latex found in condoms. This type of reaction can also indicate and infection. A Vigorous sexual encounter can also traumatize the lining of the vagina causing it to swell and appear bruised.
