A member asked:

When osteopaths make your neck and spine pop, what are they achieving when they do this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Short term relief: Popping your joints in your neck/back may feel good for a season but ultimately accelerates the degeneration of your joints which naturally occurs with time. A normal range of movement in your neck or back can cause popping but don't go out of your way to make it pop. Gentle stretching and avoiding of extreme movements is best to avoid aggravating your spinal joints.
