Two ways: There are 2 ways that the antivirals are used for herpes. One is just to speed up the resolution of an acute out break and the other is prophylacticaly to decrease the frequency of out breaks and the risk of transmission to others. In the second case you need to take the medicine every day. Just to speed healing, you probably don't need more. Talk with your doctor about the options. Good luck.
