Supportive treatment: Menstrual symptoms definitely include flu like symptoms. The symptoms may be due to leukotrienes released at the time of your period which are important in the body's inflamatory response. Treatment is good living! Healthy food, liberal fluids and tylenol (acetaminophen) one or two four times a day until symptoms relieve.

Prostaglandins: Prostaglandins are a naste group of chemicals that are released when the uterine lining breaks down. They cause fever, pain, nausea, and diarrhea. The first antiprostaglandin was aspirin. Since then we have developed many more. Ibuprofen and naproxen are available over the counter and you get the best relief if you start them before your period and symptoms start. Hope this helps.
