A member asked:

Why 5th dose of anti rabies vaccine given 28th day? is any reason? please clarify and in this period again exposure need again vaccination start?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acts as a booster: In the USA, a 4 dose schedule of 0/3/7 and 14 days is recommended, but the 5 th dose given 2-4 weeks later may be given if there is any question about host ability to make antibodies. 28 days is picked as it is easier to remember the same day of the week, ie 0.7,14,28 but if several days later, it would also be fine. Once series is completed, a reexposure requires 2 doses given 3 days apart.
