Is hiatal hernia surgery very painful?

No: Most of the hiatal hernia are performed through minimally invasive techniques with minimal post operative pain. Often times hiatal hernias are repaired with other procedures and all those procedures could result into some tightness under the breast bone for few days. However no sharp pain.
