How often should i change jewelry in my cartilage piercing to avoid infection?

If you have quality jewelry, such as 10-18K gold, it does not have to be changed. However, it is cheap jewelry and causes inflammation, then there is both concern about infection happening and also something else. The something else is that when there is inflammation around cartilage, the cartilage with thicken and grow. This can be a big problem and the result does not look nice.
