HPV: Human papilloma virus (HPV) causes warts including genital warts. Gardasil vaccine covers 4 strains of the HPV virus and in studies has shown to decrease the rate of getting genital warts, thus has been proven to be effective. People with compromised skin, such as people with eczema and also people with immunocompromised immune systems are more likely to contract the virus.

Varies: In a clinical setting we expect genital warts to appear within months of exposure to wart producing strains of HPV. There are some settings where it may not emerge for longer. When taken before exposure, the vaccine can help protect against 2 of the wart producing strains that cause most genital warts. Any person exposed to wart strains can develop them if they are not immune.
