A 35-year-old member asked:

can dehydration cause thrombocytosis?

Not really: It even raises the hemoglobin and hematocrit only a few percent. The most common cause of thrombocytosis is iron deficiency; no one knows why. Very high counts should prompt a workup. Best wishes.

Wouldn't happen: No living thing would have this degree of dehydration. Most will begin to have significant system failure when the dehydration percentage begins to exceed 10-15%. 90% dehydration is how you describe beef jerky.

What's dehydration and overdehydration? How are they treated?

Dr. Claudia Kunrath

Plenty of fluids: Dehydration occurs when someone does not drink enough fluids to keep up with the body losses and or needs. For exemple, as we breathe, urinate and pass stools, we are loosing liquids. Our body is smart and stimulate thirst , so we drink. Sometimes sickness overcomes our abilities , exemple if someone has severe diarrhea and vomiting and cannot drink enough.

Not advised!: Staying without drinking for that period of time might compromise your body systems, and kidneys might go off. I would not advise to do that Please get it yourself checked out
