Occipital Neuritis: Shooting headaches into the temples could be a sign of occipital neuritis. The nerve arises from the base of the skull and ends in the temples. Stress and exertion can cause tension in the neck which adds pressure on the right and left occipital nerve. Trial of Naproxen and if that doesn't work, an occiptial nerve block (little shot around the nerve with cortisone ) could cure the problem.
