Several causes: Could be strep. Just as likely viral. Think of mono. This is caused by eb virus but occurs in a younger age group when kissing begins. There are other infectious agents to test for; cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis. Lastly unprotected sex might leave you vulnerable to hiv or gonorrhoea. The good news is your doctor has tested you for these so if as is likely they are negative you are in the clear.
