Many conditions: There are many possibilities. It could be a venous lake. It could be colored from nearby fillings. It could be a pigmented lesion such as a mole. Always have to consider melanoma. If it's been there a long time without changing, it's very likely a benign process. If it is new, growing, bleeding, or painful, it needs to be evaluated quickly . Hope that helps.
