It depends...: Probably they mean they test people with symptoms that suggest herpes, but not asymptomatic persons who "just want to know". HSV blood tests are a bit controversial. Some experts advise testing for people at high risk without symptoms, others disagree. For sure testing is useful if there are symptoms that could be herpes or sexual contact with an infected partner, especially an ongoing partner.
