It only takes once: A woman with 28 day cycles normally ovulates on Day 14, with Day 1 being the first day of her period. In cycles of different lengths the time of ovulation may be more difficult to predict. Theoretically, ovulation will occur 14 days prior to the upcoming period. In a 32 day cycle, this would be Day 18, so your timing was perfect. It only takes having sex once around the time of ovulation.
