What are meds that can cause bone loss?

Bone loss: There are a number of medical conditions and medications that can cause bone loss. That said, it is uncommon in a 37 year old woman unless there is a medical condition or a medication that is causing this. Have you had a bone density test and if so what did it show? If you have not had a test but think it necessary please discuss with your doctor.

The classics: Hi. The most widespread and notorious drugs for bone loss are prednisone, a steroid anti-inflammatory drug, and the anti-convulsant drugs, phenytoin and carbamazepine (they deplete vitamin D). There are other drugs with adverse effects on skeletal health that are much less commonly used. If you want to ask about a specific drug, let us know. Get plenty of calcium and vitamin D. Good luck!
