What are the signs when you get an eye infection?

Discharge & reddness: Symptoms of an eye infection include a discharge from the infected eye (clear or cloudy), reddness, irritation, lid swelling, and/or pain. Some eye infections, if not diagnosed properly, can lead to significant eye problems, including blindness. You should consult your doctor if you notice these symptoms.

Redness, drainage: In general, an eye infection may cause -redness of the eyelid (outer portion or the inner portion called the conjunctiva) -thick and discolored drainage from the eye (you may notice that this drainage causes the eye to be matted shut upon awakening) -swelling of the eyelid -the eyelid to feel warmer than the surrounding skin -discomfort or itching.
