Round it up: By weight your child is big enough for two full teaspoons! Watch out for sleepiness or jittery-ness as side effects.

About 1.5 tspn: So a 38 y/o pt weighs about 16-17 kg and the dose of benadryl (diphenhydramine) is 0.5 to 1.0 mg /kg every 12 hrs or so. So pt should take about 10 to 15 mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Liquid benadryl (diphenhydramine) comes 12.5 mg/5ml. Have pt take 6 ml for a dose of 15 mg. Using ml makes the dose more precise.

1 1/2 tsp: is correct. In general benadryl (diphenhydramine) is given based on the product label For 38-49 pounds the dose is 1 1/2 tsp. http://www.healthychildren.org/English/tips-tools/Symptom-Checker/Pages/Diphenhydramine-Dosage-Table.aspx
