Phimosis : A tight foreskin from inflammation which can no longer be retracted (phimosis) is the most common reason to perform circumcision. Repeat episodes of balanitis or penile infection is another reason. Diabetic men are more prone to these conditions.

Personal choice: In the us circumcision is commonplace, 80-90%, france 30%, australia 30%, great brittain 10% (not covered by national health insurance). There is data showing decreased life risks of UTI ; std, some cancer if done.It is preformed as an emergency if the foreskin traps the end of the penis and risks loss of the glans. If it is done at all it is simple and heals quickest in newborns.
