FXS is also called : Martin-Bell Syndrome. Julia Bell, MD was an English researcher, a pioneer in human genetics. She lived 100 years & worked till she was 86. Irish-born neurologist , Dr. James Purdon Martin, lived 91 years. They published "A Pedigree of Mental Defect Showing Sex Linkage," in 1943.Dr. Herbert Lubs developed the chromosomal test in 1969. The FMR1 gene mutation on Chromosome Xq27.3 was found in 1991.
