Common infection: EBV is one of the most common human viral infections, and up to 90% of adults are seropositive for antibodies (many infections produce no symptoms). Up to 50% of children are positive by the age of 5. It is characterized by fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue and rarely, spleen enlargement. Treatment is supportive.
