What treatment does someone with 3rd degree burns go through?

Dr. Christopher Marek answered

Specializes in Plastic Surgery

Depends on size: 3rd degree burns generally refer to deep partial or full thickness burns. Very small areas can heal with wound care and dressings. Small to larger areas generally require removal of the dead burned tissue and replacing the excised tissue with skin grafts from another area of the body. As the grafts heal over several weeks physical therapy, Moisturizing, and further surgery may be required.
