what is cauterization of the cervix?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Darrin Cunningham
30 years experience Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dysplasia: or pre cancerous cells of the cervix found by Pap smear can be treated with electrocautery. Electrical arcing causes heat which destroys the superficial cells of the cervix hopefully destroying the precancerous cells.
