What is an unsteady gait? what causes it?

Neurology 52 years experience
Examples: Most commonly an unsteady gait is due to alcohol intoxication or recreational or medical drug use. Virtually any disease or trauma to head and/or neck can make gait unstable. When this occurs due to brain or inner ear problem, balance is off and you can fall.
