IgM: IgM is an antibody that is produced in response, such as to an infection, with subsequent switching to a more customized antibody such as IgG antibody (usually at day 7 to 10 after exposure). Hence, IgM usually reflects lack of memory to an antigen and is a sign of an acute infection. There are extremely rare conditions associated with elevated IgM but usually occur early in life.
