Simple Terms : Here are some examples. Someone with emphysema should have an obstructive spirometry pattern meaning they have trouble getting the air out when the exhale. A person with lung scarring should have a restrictive spirometry pattern (meaning they have trouble filling their lungs and taking a breath in).
