A member asked:

What are the differences between a cancerous tumor and a malignant tumor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The same: Tumors grow as benign or malignant growths. The benign growth can reach large size but does not have the potential to invade surrounding tissue or metastasize. The malignant cancer tumor has that capability. It has oncogene mutations for invasion of surrounding tissue, and invasion of blood stream with metastasis. It has variants of the cadherins that allow for progression and metastasis.
