Probably OK: Hi Angela637. You may know this, but remember that mammalian menstrual bleeding is made up of tissue that is laid down in expectation of the arrival of a fertilized egg, not just blood. What you actually see is also a combination of that endometrium plus other normal secretions of the cervix and the vagina..so its color can vary a lot. If more concern, see your practitioner.

Period Appearance: Menstrual flow in a woman can vary immensely. Since the pigment in our blood is iron based, the color can vary anywhere along the continuum depending on numerous hormonal factors and the duration and intensity of the flow cycle. Color intensity is also related to iron status. Anemia therefore affects color and general health in menstruating women. Blood testing can help identify any issues.
