Unlikely: Recurrent UTIs in the setting of spina bifida are the result of pooled urine left in the b;adder due to the inability to feel when the bladder is empty. Sheaths collect the urine as it emerges but do not assure the bladder is empty. This is best accomplished with intermittent catheterization . You could use the sheath and perhaps three times a day use a catheter to fully empty the bladder.Lactobacillus Reuteri RC-14 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus have been used to help protect from infection but by far the best methods involve surgical procedures to reroute the urinary flow and or allow catheterization to completely empty the bladder three to four times a day. Do consult a urologist experienced in addressing bladder function in spin bifida.
