Mirena (levonorgestrel): Irregular bleeding is common in the first 3-6 weeks after insertion. The locally acting Progesterone begins to thin out the endometrial lining which is what ultimately leads to the absent or light periods. Mood swings are not likely related as the dose of Progesterone is so low it normally does not have systemic effects. You may just want to give it some time to see if you adjust.

ASK YOUR GYN: You should ask your GYN about the coil. It has only been month #1...HOWEVER , the mood swings are NOT RELATED and you should seek some counseling about this..specific treatment IS available even if the mood is "Hormone related" Hope this helps Good Luck DR z
