A member asked:

Who is at risk for posterior vitreous detachments?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Any one older: Vitreous detachment is universal in older age and represents the transition of the gel vitreous into a dense syrupy liquid. It usually happens silently but when symptoms occur (floaters, light flashes, visual changes) these mimic those of retinal detachment which is serious. If you have these symptoms, see your ophthalmologist for evaluation to distinguish these two.
