Outdated Term: Tho' still a billing code, Academic Underachievement Disorder is not a mental disorder in the DSM-V. Public Education law no longer requires schools to test for an ability- achievement discrepancy in kids whose academic progress is lower & slower than expected. To determine underlying causes , take the child to (neuro)psychologist & a Development/Behavioral Pediatrician or Child Psychiatrist.
