3 major ones: Non-sedating are loratidine (claritin), fexofendadine (allegra) and cetirizine (zyrtec). Diphenhydramine is very effective as well but is sedating.

OTC Allergy Medicine: OTC longer-acting oral anti-histamines cause less tiredness. Examples: Claritin/Alavert, Zyrtec, Allegra. Generics are acceptable. Nasal sprays include Nasalcrom, Flonase, Nasacort, Rhinocort, which are safe and non-habit forming. Eye drops, examples Alaway, Zaditor (ketotifen) are good for eye allergy. Decongestants present by pill, nasal spray, and eye drops should be used only short-term.
