Sleeping sickness: Sleeping sickness may be caused by Trypanosoma brucei and Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. Both are transmitted by bite of infected tsetse fly and very common in rurual areas. Diagnosis made from blood smears and the parasite is noted. Preventive screening of population and insected bite prevention is important to control this disease. The first medications are Pentamidine or suramin.
