Pertussis: is divided into three stages: catarrhal, paroxysmal and convalescent. The 1st stage is characterized by common cold symptoms for 1-2 weeks. The 2nd stage is marked by the characteristic cough, and the 3rd by gradual resolution over 2-3 weeks.
