What are complications for an elderly patient during an anaesthetic procedure?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Many . . .: While there are complications attributed to anesthesia such as confusion & delirium as well as difficulty weaning off ventilator, complications are more often attributed to the procedure itself eg blood clots, heart attacks, stroke, bleeding, infection & delirium. The confusion from general anesthesia can be mitigated to some extent by offering regional anesthesia when possible.
