Unlikely, but...: In a woman with regular periods, some causes of a late period include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (like birth control pills), hormonal imbalances, etc… Seeing a doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome. Pregnancy is the common cause of a missed period, if sexually active.

Here are some ...: Ovulation usually occurs 2 weeks before period regardless of personal menstrual regularity so the fertile time begins largely 16 days before period and lasts roughly for a total of some 5-7 days. So, based on these, you can figure out if you may be pregnant. However, nowadays, you don't have to be bothered with worrying about pregnancy but simply do HPT soon after missing the expected period...
