Not from your friend: It's unlikely you caught oral herpes from your friend, assuming no intimate contact like kissing. The first infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) usually is more severe than a single cold sore. If that's what you have, it's more likely you have had oral HSV all along (usually acquired in childhood) now having a recurrent outbreak. Or maybe not herpes -- see a doctor for accurate diagnosis.
