Several things: could be an acute strain of one of the muscles between those digits (interosseous or lumbrical muscles). Pain not in the knuckle joint(s)?. If so, strain of joint perhaps. Ice, advil/aleve most helpful if symptoms persist for the next day or 2. If symptoms beyond that, or develop numbness, tingling, weakness of digits or hand, get it checked out.
